🇦🇲Taking a dog or cat to Armenia: entry rules and flights

Armenia itself does not require a chip for export, but virtually every destination (EU, UAE, Turkey, USA, etc.) requires an ISO 11784/11785 microchip — so implant it in advance. The chip number is entered in the vet passport and the certificate. For the EU the order matters: the chip must be no later than the rabies vaccination date, i.e. chip BEFORE the first vaccine. If vaccinated before chipping, the vaccination must be repeated.

Required for every destination. Under the common EAEU rules the shot must be given no sooner than 30 days and no later than 12 months before travel (with an unbroken booster chain the validity counts from the first shot). For EU destinations a stricter benchmark applies: wait at least 21 days after the primary shot before entry. The vaccination is recorded in the vet passport.

Not always needed — it depends on the destination. For entry to any EU country, as well as Japan, the UAE, Turkey, the USA, Israel, Korea and several others, the test is mandatory; the level must be ≥ 0.5 IU/ml. Blood is drawn no sooner than 30 days after the vaccine, and for the EU entry is possible no sooner than 3 months after the blood draw. For CIS/EAEU countries the titer is not required. It is convenient to take the test in advance while still in Armenia (or earlier where it is cheaper), as it is tied to the chip and vaccine, not to the departure point.

Armenia's internal vet document in the common Customs Union/EAEU form (Form No. 1). Issued by a vet in Armenia (a state vet station / accredited clinic under the Food Safety Inspection Body, SATM / snund.am). Before issuing it, the animal is examined; the examination mark is entered in the vet passport within 14 days before departure, together with the rabies vaccination and parasite-treatment records. This form is valid for movement within the country and across the EAEU, but you do not fly outside the Union on it — it is the basis for the international certificate issued at airport vet control.

On departure day you bring the pet and the documents (Form No. 1, vet passport, titer report if needed) to the veterinary control point at Zvartnots Airport (Yerevan). A state SATM vet examines the animal, checks the chip and papers, and exchanges Form No. 1 for the international veterinary certificate — Form 5a (or the health certificate required by the destination country). Arrive at the desk and vet control no later than 2 hours before departure.
