Bulgaria Air pet policy: flying with a dog or cat

Bulgaria Air carries dogs and cats in the cabin up to 8 kg and in the hold. The pet's place is booked in advance — at least 72 h before departure.

Snub-nosed breeds are not accepted in the hold. A separate breed ban applies to 11 breeds. Direct flights reach 17 countries, but flying there and taking a pet are different questions: the destination country has its own entry rules.

The carrier's rule+

In the cabin (PETC) cats and dogs travel if the combined weight of the animal and carrier does not exceed 8 kg; a hard or soft (textile) carrier up to 48x35x22 cm is placed under the seat in front.
Up to 2 animals of the same species (dog or cat), breed and family may share one carrier.
Minimum age 3 months; a microchip, a valid passport and a rabies vaccination are required.
A passenger with a pet cannot be seated in the first row or at emergency exits.
Fee: international routes EUR 80 (156.46 BGN) if pre-ordered / EUR 90 (176.02 BGN) at the airport; domestic routes EUR 50 (97.79 BGN) / EUR 60 (117.34 BGN).
Available on all direct Bulgaria Air flights EXCEPT flights to/from London Heathrow.
Carriage may be refused if the pet quota on board is full, so book and pay in advance.
Check-in for passengers with pets is at the airport only.

Hold Allowed

The carrier's rule+

Animals with a combined weight (animal + crate) over 8 kg are carried in the hold (AVIH).
Each passenger may carry at most 1 crate with a pet.
Maximum crate dimensions 110x65x70 cm with NO weight limit on the animal; only rigid IATA-certified containers are accepted.
The fee depends on the combined animal+crate weight — international routes: 9-23 kg EUR 110 (215.14 BGN), 23-45 kg EUR 150 (293.37 BGN), over 45 kg EUR 190 (371.60 BGN); domestic routes (Varna and Burgas): EUR 70 / EUR 90 / EUR 110 respectively.
The service must be requested at least 72 hours before the flight (call-centre e-mail, airline office or agent); without a prior request it will be refused at the airport.
Not available on flights to/from London Heathrow.
PROHIBITED in the hold: brachycephalic (snub-nosed) breeds and fighting/dangerous breeds.
Animals with a total weight including the container exceeding 25 kg are not accepted to/from Brussels.
A rabies vaccination is required; for the EU, compliance with Regulation 576/2013.

In the hold brachycephalic breeds are PROHIBITED.
