Turkish Airlines is one of the few major carriers that takes dogs and cats both in the cabin and in the hold. In the cabin the pet and its carrier together must stay within 8 kg; in the hold the animal and its crate may weigh up to 50 kg. The pet has to be booked in advance — at least 6 hours before departure.

Since 2017 — brachycephalic breeds banned from cargo. Dangerous/fighting breeds (Rottweiler, Doberman, mastiffs/dogues, Tosa Inu, American Bulldog, Caucasian and Anatolian Shepherds, wolf hybrids) are not accepted in the cabin (cargo only). Breeds banned from import into Turkey itself (Pit Bull, Tosa Inu, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro) — see the country rules. The Anatolian Shepherd (Kangal) was added to the field on 04.09.2026: it is named in this very note but never reached the machine-readable list. The generic 'Great Danes/Dogos' entry stays in prose — in Russian the word covers the Great Dane, the Dogo Argentino and the Dogue de Bordeaux alike, and the text does not say which the carrier means.

Snub-nosed breeds — bulldogs, pugs, Persian cats and others — are not accepted in the hold, because they struggle to breathe in flight. A heat rule applies in summer: if the temperature anywhere on the route is above 27 °C, animals are not carried in the hold.
